Function

To perform instruction and other related duties in the Colleges instructional program.

Organizational Relationships

Adjunct faculty member reports to the Department Chair/Program Coordinator, who reports to the Dean, who reports to the Vice President, who reports to the President

Qualifications for Position

• Qualifications required for area of teaching Masters degree and 18 graduate hours in the teaching discipline.
• Commitment to community college mission and philosophy
• Excellent communication, organization, and presentation skills
• Willingness and ability to teach students in the classroom and through alternative delivery methods
• Work with entire College community in an effective and positive manner

Essential Functions

• Perform instructional duties as assigned for appropriate subject area
• Prepare or update syllabi for instructional area as assigned.
• Participate in selection of textbooks and equipment, which the instructor deems necessary in instructional assignments.
• Perform assessment of student learning and participate in College wide assessment program.
• Report absences from assigned responsibilities promptly to the Dean
• Maintain attendance and grade records and provide these records for review as necessary
• Participate in professional development activities both on campus and off-campus, if available.
• Keep abreast of current trends, technologies and information in subject area.

Supervisory Responsibility

None

Supervisory Controls

Adjunct faculty member is required to work independently with a minimum amount of supervision. Consultation as necessary is available with the Department Chair or Dean.

Guidelines

Adjunct faculty member is expected to follow all College policies and procedures as well as all local, state, and federal laws. Adjunct faculty member is also expected to adhere to and foster development of Kaskaskia College core values of compassion, honesty, respect, responsibility and fairness.

Personal Relationships

Depending on the specific teaching schedule, adjunct faculty member can expect to have frequent contact with students and other College employees and will have frequent contact with community.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Depending on the adjunct faculty members load assignment, duties will be performed in either a classroom setting or internship or clinical environment. Travel within the College district, as well as occasional overnight travel is required as necessary to perform the duties of the position.

Creative Writing	Master’s Degree with a major in English, Literature, or Creative Writing, Masters of Fine Arts Or Master Degree with 18 graduate semester hours in Creative Writing, English, Literature, or combination of 18 graduate hours in these areas.
Geography	18 graduate hours in Geography + Master’s Degree Or Master’s Degree with a major in Geography
History	18 graduate hours in History + Master’s Degree Or Master’s Degree with a major in history
Health	18 graduate hours in Health Education or Public Health Field + Master’s Degree Or Master’s Degree with a major in Health Education or Public Health and appropriate professional experience.
Journalism	18 graduate semester hours in Journalism or Communication + Master’s Degree. Or Master’s Degree with a major in Journalism or Communication.

Develpmental Math (not college level)	Baccalaureate degree in math, math education. Or A related degree with substantial mathematics course work through at least calculus and competencies in teaching developmental mathematics.
Math (non-statistics)	18 graduate semester hours in mathematics + Master’s Degree. Or Master’s Degree with a major in mathematics.
Math - Statistics	18 graduate hours in mathematics a statistics with a least 6 of those hours in statistics + Master’s degree. Or Master’s Degree with a major in statistics or mathematics with at least 6 hours in statistics.
Music	18 graduate semester hours in Music + Master’s Degree or Master’s Degree with a major in music.
Music - Private Instruction	Bachelors in Music Preferred + significant experience with specific instrument + prior private lesson/teaching experience.
Music - Piano	18 graduate semester hours in Music + Master’s Degree or Master’s Degree with a major in music + a background in piano
